DONOR COMPENSATION: WHY PEOPLE NEED EGG
DONORS:
WHAT IS INVOLVED: Becoming an egg donor requires a time commitment and a responsibility to follow through with the procedures outlined by our physician. This process requires taking injectable medication to stimulate the ovaries to produce eggs, and monitoring your response by ultrasound and measurement of blood estrogen levels. An ultrasound guided office procedure is performed to retrieve your eggs with sedation by an anesthesiologist. During the egg donation cycle monitoring appointments of 15 -20 minutes will be needed. This happens during a window of about 10 -14 days and will require you to come into the clinic between the hours of 7:30 am and 10 am. for about 4 to 5 times. A flexible schedule for these 15 -20 minute appointments is very helpful. We are sensitive to the fact that donors are making a sacrifice of time and a commitment to their recipients so the clinic opens each morning at 7:30 a.m. to accommodate donors who may need to get to work or school on time. You will need to take a day off from work or school on the day of the egg retrieval. You are welcome to have someone accompany you during the egg donation cycle appointments including the egg retrieval. You will also need someone to drive you home after this procedure as you will have been sedated, and cannot drive. STEPS TO BECOMING AN EGG DONOR:
Application and Photo Interested women should fill out the Egg Donation application and forward it to the clinic for review, or call the clinic at (503) 418-3700 and one will be promptly mailed to you. Your interest in becoming a donor is kept strictly confidential. In addition we would appreciate a photograph sent with this application to help us in the matching process. With your permission these photographs will be posted on our web site for recipient couples to view in helping them find a donor that matches their family traits. If you would prefer not to have your photograph posted on-line or used just let us know. Donors have three options in regards to photographs:
Egg Donor Orientation Meeting The second step is to attend our Egg Donor Orientation Meeting which will give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about egg donation. We will thoroughly explain the egg donation procedures to you. You are welcome to bring your partner or a friend to this meeting, which lasts about two hours. The Donor Orientation Meetings are held at the clinic at least twice a month. Appointment with Dr. Marsha Gorrill If you wish to continue the screening process after the Egg Donor Orientation Meeting we will set an appointment for you to meet with Dr. Marsha Gorrill, the Director of our egg donation program. During these meeting Dr. Gorrill will review your application with you and she will give you a physical exam, which will include a screening pelvic ultrasound. Mental Health Screening A one hour consultation with our clinic counselor, Paula Acker LCSW, is required as part of our mental health screening process for all prospective egg donors. There is no cost to the donor for this evaluation and it is done at Paula’s private practice counseling office located at 1962 N.W. Kearney Street, Suite #104, Portland, Oregon 97209. To schedule this appointment please call Paula at (503) 940-5777 or visit www.paulaacker.com Written Profile Posted Your written profile, which contains non identifying information, is generated to share with potential recipient couples. If you have elected to share photographs they will be either posted on the web site, or reviewed privately in the clinic by recipients, if you prefer. If you have elected to not share any photographs then recipients will only be allowed to see your profile. Genetic and Infectious Disease Screening Once you are matched with a recipient couple blood work for genetic and infectious diseases will be done, including screening for HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis B and C.
