Comments Following an Interview with the OHSU Fertility Consultants Clinic Counselor:

This donor is a young man of Hispanic and Black mixed race. He is five feet ten inches tall and has brown hair and eyes. He is very physically fit and works out regularly. He learned about sperm donation while a college student studying to get his BS degree in Communications. He recently graduated and is pursuing graduate school at this time. He has also served in the Armed Forces for seven years. He joined when he was seventeen years old. He served in Iraq for fifteen months, and completed college when he returned. He sustained some hearing loss due to a bomb explosion while on active duty. His occupational goals are to become a real estate investor and buy and sell houses and buildings that he fixes up. He is reading and studying for this independently.

Donor grew up in Texas and New Mexico. His mother is Hispanic and his father is black. His parents divorced when he was two years old. His father is a veteran from the Viet Nam war and has been disabled from this, but is otherwise in good health. His father does suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He is the youngest of four children, all boys. His oldest brother cares for his mother and resides in Idaho. Another brother does media research and a third brother works as a coach for a call center. He states they all have excellent health. One brother has three children. His grandfather fought in the Korean War and he is proud of his family's strong ties to the military and to the USA.

Donor is a non-smoker and light social drinker. He averages about three drinks per month. He has a positive family history for alcoholism with his biological father. He has no history of drug or alcohol abuse. There is no family history of mental illness and the donor has never sought counseling. He does get together with his army buddies for support from time to time. His hobbies include reading investment books and real estate books and snowboarding. He also enjoys lifting weights and works out with his father. He has taught how to do web design also.

Donor states his motivation to be a donor is to pass on his genetics. He feels that if something were to happen to him he would be happy to know that he had made someone happy to have a child and made a difference in that someone's life. He is aware that he will never know the recipients of his donations but feels comfortable being an information donor should anyone ever need additional information from him. He hopes to have his own family one day.

My impressions of this donor are that he is a very likeable young man with a very bright future. He has faced the most difficult situations in life including having his friends die beside him while on active duty. He is strong and resilient and very positive about life. He has a "can-do" attitude about making his life good by hard work, discipline, and determination and is an inspiring person to meet. He is very attractive and has an engaging personality that is warm and joyful. He meets the ASRM guidelines for being a donor.

Summary of the Taylor-Johnson Temperament Analysis:

Donor #9882 took the Taylor Johnson Temperament Analysis. The TJTA measures a number of important and independent common personality attitudes or variables which influence personal, social, marital, family and vocational adjustment.

This donor scored in the "excellent" range in five of the nine measurements. He scored in the "acceptable" range in three areas and in one area he scored in the "improvement desirable" range.

The first measurement that was in the "excellent" range was under "Self-Disciplined" versus "Impulsive." This represents a person's ability to be organized, mature, planful and with the ability to follow through on theri commitments or plans. This indicates a person who may be very neat and tidy in his approach to life and who has a good sense of self control. They respect authority and have control over their behavior and emotions also.

The second measurement in the "excellent" range was "Tolerant" versus "Hostile." A tolerant individual is a person that is patient, accepting and humane. They may have strong beliefs about all aspects of life but they are not critical of others' beliefs or inconsiderate of different lifestyles. They show respect and have freedom from prejudice and are not likely to force their beliefs on others.

The third measurement that scored in the "excellent" range was "Dominant" versus "Submissive." This is a measurement of ego
strength, confidence, and self-worth. This indicates a person that has self-assurance, firmness, and leadership abilities. They are likely to have a competitive spirit. This does not indicate someone that is aggressive, or overly pushy or powerful. It is a measurement that scores initiative and suggests someone who may do well with public speaking or debate.

The fourth measurement in the "excellent" range was "Objective" vs "Subjective." An objective individual is a person who is analytical, impartial and not pre-occupied with worry or self doubt. They have the ability to think clearly in difficult situations and make accurate assessments while remaining objective. They act logically, whereas a subjective personality would be highly emotional, hold grudges, and likely distort the truth.

The last measurement in the "excellent" range was "Active-Social" vs "Quiet." A score in this range indicates a person that enjoys the companionship of others, seeks out and maintains friendship, and is energetic and enthusiastic socially. They are likely to want to participate in group events and may be thought of as a "go-getter" in life.

Donor scored in the "acceptable" range in three areas. This means a normal, average score.

The first "acceptable" measurement was in "Light-Hearted" vs "Depressive." This indicates that most of the time he feels content, cheerful, and optimistic. Like most people he expresses a wide range of emotions but his tendency, according to this measurement, is to be satisfied with his life.

The second "acceptable" score was in the measurement of "Composed" vs "Nervous." This implies a disposition that is calm and relaxed most of the time, and the ability to recover quickly from nerve-racking experiences.

The third "acceptable" score was in the measurement "Expressive-Responsive" vs "Inhibited." This indicates an affectionate and spontaneous personality that is friendly, outgoing, and warm hearted.

KID PAGE

1. In general, please describe your childhood.

I had an adventurous childhood. My family tended to travel a lot throughout my younger years. We would spend many of our summers on camping trips to the beach, lakes and dry lake beds.

I had 3 older brothers who I shared many exciting experiences with. We always seemed to get along. We would play lots of imaginary games like super hero tag, red light green light, and hide and go seek.

2. Were there any family members other than your parents and siblings with whom you regularly had contact?

I have a large extended family so I was always spending time with my cousins and uncles. I remember one time in New Mexico where I had gone on a camping trip with my family and distant relatives. This experience was quite memorable because I ended up getting sun burnt on my face. It was terrible but my brothers and cousins made me feel a lot better.

3. As a child, what was/were your favorite: (Please include a reason, or why, if you can.)

Food(s)? Enchiladas. Mother was an excellent cook.

Color(s)? Light blue

Toy(s)? We mostly used our imaginations.

Indoor game(s)? Video games

Outdoor game(s)? Badminton, red light green light

Book(s)? "Where the Wild Things Are;" read it in school

Sport(s)? Basketball, baseball

Other activity(s)?

4. What is your earliest memory?

I remember being in an earthquake in California a long time ago. I was walking to the kitchen and the ground had moved up. I fell on my back.

5. What did you do during the summers?

I spent most of my summers hanging around the house with my family or being on long camping trips.

6. Are there any "new" technologies you remember becoming available during your childhood which now are commonplace in our society, or which have now been replaced by a newer technology?

I used to play with a Gameboy when I was much younger. Nowadays they have handheld video games that not only play games in color but they play movies and browse on the net.

7. Did you enjoy school as a child? Do you have any memories of teachers that influenced you, or that you especially liked (or disliked)?

I enjoyed school. I was very social with all the kids. I had lots of friends not only my age but older. I had one teacher htat really reached me. he was a math/biology teacher. His methodology in teaching made me want to be in school.

8. Did you have chores or tasks that you were regularly expected to do?

I had several chores that I was expected to do everyday, such as washing the dishes, vacuuming, and racking the leaves. I was at least doing one of those a day.

9. Any other recollections of importance that come to mind?

I had a decent childhood. My folks were tough on me and my brothers but they taught us to be respectful and courteous to everyone.
