1. In general, please describe your childhood.

We stayed in the same place from the time I was 2 till I was 17, then we moved across town to a better neighborhood halfway through my senior year (stayed in the same school so no big deal).  After graduation I moved away for college.  I loved the house I grew up in because it bordered a forest where I spent much of my spare time playing with my dog; I caught animals, built forts, and ate plenty of berries.  As for my sister we fought all the time, we are only 2 years apart and between the competitiveness and stubbornness it was only a matter of time before we were at each others’ throats.  After I moved to college she and I became friends, eventually she and her friends graduated and moved into my townhouse near the university.  I became the mediator between them rather than between us...everyone jokingly called the house “Three’s Company” because I lived with 4 women.

2. Were there any family members other than your parents and siblings with whom you regularly had contact?

Most of my family lives on the other side of the country (East Coast) so we visited them a few weeks of the year every 4th summer growing up.  My grandmothers were always waiting with chores for us to do when we got there, usually mending holes squirrels made in screen doors on back porches.  My grandmother made great traditional rhubarb pie and jam, I hate vegetables but she had magical powers as far as I was concerned when it came to rhubarb.  I have great memories of my crazy/hyper cousin doing whatever to get a laugh or a “wow”...he became the serious optometrist, go figure.  My aunt, who has a soft spot for dirty jokes, always laughing and telling stories.
